Scott Brown became the first Republican senator from Massachusetts in 30 years. Brown winning the senate seat, 52 percent to 47 percent, was a huge upset in the liberal state.
Brown will become the 41st Republican in the 100-member Senate which could allow the GOP to block the president's health care legislation and the rest of his agenda. Brown will finish Kennedy's unexpired term, facing re-election in 2012.
In Brown's first meeting with reporters after the special election, he portrayed his victory as less a referendum on Obama or the president's health care proposal and more of a sign that people are tired of Washington politics and deal-making.
Obama said the Massachusetts vote reflected the mood around the country. "People are angry, and they're frustrated," he said in an ABC news interview.
After Brown's win, there was a sense that if Republicans could win in one of the country's most traditionally liberal states, Massachusetts, they could probably win anywhere.
Obama says people are angry and reacting to the last eight years. I say BS, we're tired of having something so huge, so restrictive and so mysterious shoved down our hypothetical throats. Stop blaming George Bush for losing elections and the support of the smarter democrats in your party.
ReplyDeleteI've always been interested in politics and I've always opposed basically everything Obama stands for. This election has shown me that we as ordinary Americans really DO have a voice and we CAN make big things happen when it matters most. Obama needs to listen to the American people, to the people who make up HIS OWN PARTY, instead of trying to get his name in the history books.
It's about damn time.
Right on sista! If you all don't know who "HJ" is, it's my friend Hannah. She's pretty much amazing, you can tell by the above comment!
