We Lit Up The Night

We went up to southeastern Kansas this weekend to burn a place Adam worked at when he was in high school. We burn up there every year and it's always very enjoyable. When we woke up Saturday morning the wind was blowing like heck out of the wrong direction, we were pretty down. Saturday afternoon we finally drove a few miles away so I could get service on my phone, we got on the internet on my phone to get the forecast. Good news, the wind was going to slow down a bit, quit gusting so hard and the direction was going to change. We went back to the house to start putting in fire lines. We started slinging fire at 4 p.m. .....
Adam started the fire so we could burn off the pond dam

Here's the pond dam on fire

I took over the lighting

We used this creek as part of our fire break

I'm to the left slingin fire!

This is our little helper Charlie, every time we said fire, he said hot. He's a smart 2-year-old! And he loved the fire! He's going to be a little fire bug some day.

About 2 seconds after this picture was taken a dead cedar went up and threw embers across the creek so we had to go put it out before I could turn the corner to light more.

Fire in the night!

A BEAUTIFUL sight. And I forgot my camera on this trip! I never do that! Everyone was giving me crap for it. Thankfully Jayme had her camera with her!

ooooooo aaaaaa

The fire went better than any of us ever imagined. The humidity didn't get too high, the wind was doing good and we killed a few cedars! They don't have as big of a cedar problem in Kansas, because they burn more than people in Oklahoma! Hello people. Anyway, burning at night is always fun and beautiful!

We had a great time this weekend, a few of our old friends came up and helped us burn later on at night. We got to hang out with everyone and had a great time. Charlie loved the fire and watched most of it, he's a little trooper. Jayme brought us water and Gatorade and cooked us all dinner after we were worn smooth out, but then we went out to burn more after that! I forgot how nice it is when you're worn out to have dinner ready! Thanks Jayme! We also got to watch several (even though there should have been 10x more burning) fires burning while we were driving home, and a few when it was dark. Overall, we had a great weekend!
