If you guys haven't ever seen our house you don't know how big our dang flower bed is. The front of our house is really long, and the flower bed is even longer. It had a bunch of random bushes that were not kept properly and looked like crap, with random rocks in it, and weeds, it was just a mess, trust me on this one. So yesterday we decided to rip the whole thing out and start over. Thank the dear Lord for the skid steer or it just plain would not have happened.
We started the project at around 11:30 am and got everything ripped out by 1:30 pm, you don't have to say it, we're good. Then we went and got some good (darker) dirt from the creek and brought it in, tilled it all up and measured everything off to make sure the border would be even on both sides of the porch. We then put in the border, then the sandstone rocks in front of it and planted some bulbs (I know I'm a little late, better late than never) and some vinca minor ground cover. We decided to minimize the are of actual flowers, this will make it easier to keep up. So on both sides of the porch we will have flowers and then the rest of the length of the house will be bushes. We have to have something in front of the house because it sits on a hill and you can see the foundation on the lower side... it's an old house.
So I decided to add tall white hydrangeas on the outside of the flower area, azaleas in the corner of the porch and house (haven't decided what color) and peonies in the middle with some dahlias around the border, perennials, perennials perennials, that's what I'm talking about! I'll take some pictures of what it looks like now (or when the clouds decide to part) and pictures of what it looks like once everything is bloomed and perty!
