As many of you are aware, I am now working four, ten hour days, Monday through Thursday with Fridays off this summer. Last Friday we took a little trip down southeast of Gainsville, TX to look at a boat. We were kind of nervous, because of how bad our boat looking experience was in Norman a few weeks back.
We got to the seller's house and looked the boat over up and down, and then took it to a nearby lake to test driver her. She's just perfect for us, she is a 1996 Ranger bass boat, she'll get up and go in a hurry, seat a few people, has plenty of storage, has seats in front of the dual console, two fish finders, one with a GPS, a 150 hp motor, a trolling motor, and we liked the color which is black with red sparkles and some silver on the bottom. Needless to say we bought her. Adam talked the seller down $300 from what he was originally asking for, which was lower than blue book value, but he needed to get rid of it because of his congestive heart failure. Adam told him the trailer tires were in really bad shape and we would have to get three new tires immediately. The seller agreed, and we bought her. We got a really good deal. Ranger boats are "name brand" in the boat world, they've been around for a long time and hold their value more than most other boat brands. They are typically a little more expensive than other boats, but it's one of those things, you get what you pay for. Just like buying a cheap brand car, it will run, but probably won't last as long as the ones that are built good and have been around a long time.
On the way back from Gainsville to Stillwater, we had a blowout just about 12 miles south of Norman, I hate that town. It took two and a half hours to find a couple of trailer tires...out of all the places that sell tires only one place had them, and they weren't the EXACT right ones, but they worked. It just so happens that the place was closing and wouldn't put the tires on, so we had to go buy them then find someone else to put them on the rims, it was a fiasco! The people were not friendly at all, and it should NEVER take two and a half ours to get a couple of trailer tires! Adam assured me it was because they were liberals and liberals don't pull trailers, which is why nobody had any in stock. I thought it was pretty funny. Anyway, we finally got them put on the trailer and pulled her back home, getting in around 11pm. We were worn smooth out, but happy as can be with our new boat.
Saturday we vacuumed it out, took it to the car wash and cleaned the entire boat, including the carpet, then brought her back home and waxed her all up.
If you haven't noticed, I've been referring to the boat as a her. That is because all boats are females, and yes we did name her. Her name is Scarlett, which matches the color of the boat and the fact that it's Scarlett O'Hara's name from Gone With The Wind, a classic.
We have taken her to the lake near our house four times now, enjoying our new toy. Which is why I haven't had time to take any pictures. Keep an eye out for some pictures, I'll be posting them soon!
