We have started on our greenhouse project and are well on our way.
We did a lot of research before deciding if we were going to buy one or build one, and if we built one, what materials we were going to use. We found one online that was on sale in Tulsa that we were going to buy until we found out that the aluminum frame was flimsy and everyone who wrote a review on it had to brace it with additional materials. It was then we decided we were going to build one, but we weren't sure what we wanted to build our frame out of. We were going to use wood we already had for the frame and treat it ourselves which would cut the cost by a lot. But then we read that treated wood can put off fumes and kill plants in the greenhouse, so we scratched that idea. We then decided to build it out of steel, but weren't sure if we were going to use stuff we already had which was round pipe, or if we were going to use something square that would be easier to weld and attach the panels to.
So we bought our steel last week and the clear plastic panels for the greenhouse and started welding the frame this weekend. We worked all day Saturday and all day Sunday and have most of the frame built. We are lacking squares for the vents and a few braces. Besides that we just have to finish the rest of the welding, build the interior shelves, paint the steel so it doesn't rust, attach the panels and install the door and vents.
We are so glad that we decided to go with a steel frame. We won't have to worry about it blowing over, rotting or being flimsy. And we can always add onto it if we need to.
I will post pictures of the process soon!
