If you like store-bought French onion dip, this will make your taste buds go crazy!
First you need to slice 2 medium-sized vidalia or yellow onions in rings about 1/4 inch thick. Add them to a large skillet on medium to medium-low with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Saute for about 45 minutes to one hour, or until translucent, golden in color and sweet. Then add 4 slices shallots, saute for another 15 minutes.
Let the onions cool in the skillet for about 10 minutes and then transfer to a large cutting board.
Dice the onions up in to small pieces, or to what texture you prefer.
In a large mixing bowl add 2 1/2 cups sour cream, 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise (do not use light mayonnaise or miracle whip), 1 tablespoon celery salt, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons fresh cracked black pepper, 1 tablespoon kosher salt, 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper (optional if you want a kick).
Then throw in your onions and stir it all up!
Let sit at least over night to let all the flavors marry! Enjoy!!!
